Presentazione
Presentation
Can we find value, individually and collectively, in Jung’s Red Book for a time like ours, which is so deeply overcast by the Umbra Mundi ("World Shadow)? Both the Coronavirus pandemic and the international political crisis and war threat that we are facing right now inevitably shadow all our thoughts as we prepare this Symposium on “Jung’s Red Book for Our Time”. On an even larger scale, we recognize that we are facing a world historical transition in human culture without the guidance traditionally offered by grand narratives or collective myths. A similar mood of deep anxiety about the future overshadowed the world when C. G. Jung began working on his Red Book in 1913. In response to his “Spirit of the Times,” Jung embarked on an inner journey with “the Spirit of the Depths” and created his Liber Novus, a work that reflects his discovery of a personal myth. His approach to the problems presented by the spirit of his times also has prescriptive significance for our times. The Red Book has the potential to offer guidance for people living under the disruptive conditions of the first half of the 21st century. This potential will be explored by the speakers and participants in this Symposium.

Health Regulations
Entry to Switzerland is still subject to the entry requirements stipulated by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM). In addition, people entering Switzerland from a state or area with a variant of concern must observe the health-related measures at the border. The interactive Travelcheck tool will provide you with information on your individual situation when entering Switzerland.
As of February 17, 2022, access restrictions for cultural events have been lifted. Nevertheless, new security measures issued in the meantime by the health authorities, such as further measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, may possibly apply to access to this event. Regardless of this, given the considerable number of participants, the organization considers it necessary to require, during each session of the indoor conference, to wear a mask with a minimum standard of protection FFP2 (or KN95), to protect themselves and other participants.
Health and Travel Insurance
Tourists from EU/EFTA countries are entitled to receive medical treatment during visits to Switzerland (holidays, business trips). Nationals of other countries must instead have sufficient insurance to cover the costs of treatment in Switzerland. For more information, please see the dedicated webpage of the Federal Office of Publich Health (FOPH). Due to the continuing instability of the health and, recently, political situation at the international level, travel insurance is recommended. The proposing organizations decline all responsibility for any unforeseen events and accidents that may occur during the congress.

Luoghi / Places
Eranos
The word “Eranos,” in Greek language, applies to a banquet, which comes to life thanks to the contributions of each participant. The cultural center Eranos was created in Ascona-Moscia in 1933, thanks to Olga Fröbe-Kapteyn (1881-1962), as a “meeting place between East and West.” The model, which refers to some circles of the Italian Renaissance, but also to circles of German Romanticism, took the form of a series of annual Conferences (Tagungen) of interdisciplinary and international nature. It was mainly thanks to the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) that the Eranos meetings were directed towards the study of the “archetypes,” namely those fundamental aspects of psychic life that, despite the processes of civilization, seem to maintain constant their basic features. At Eranos many of the most influential scholars in the culture of the twentieth century met and debated. Lively interested for dialogue around the major themes that cross cultures, as well as the problematic issues of our times, the Eranos Foundation today continues its activities in collaboration with universities and cultural institutions. The lecture hall of Casa Eranos, built in 1928, is still a privileged place for meetings and scientific seminars. The historical library of Casa Gabriella, whose extensive catalogue goes through the fields of psychology, history of religions, philosophy, Oriental studies, literature, and art history, is now being expanded as part of a restoration and enhancement program of the cultural heritage of the Foundation.
Monte Verità
In 1900, a group of young people from Northern Europe founded the colony Monte Verità (“Mountain of Truth”). They were inspired by the Lebensreform (“life reform”), looked for a third alternative way to communism and capitalism, and created a vegetarian cooperative, which later became a sanatorium. Since the early years, the place has been a crossroads of theosophists, psychologists, writers and, in 1913, Rudolf von Laban, choreographer and dancer, founded his School of Art there. If in these years the community and the sanatorium begin their decline, due in particular to financial difficulties, with the Monte Verità School of Art it becomes a destination for artists who between the 20s and 30s elect Ascona as a privileged destination. In 1926, Monte Verità was bought by the art collector and banker, Baron Edward von der Heydt, who transformed the sanatorium into a prestigious hotel, while maintaining the role of Monte Verità as an ideal place for scientific and philosophical meetings and a destination for artists. On the death of the Baron, Monte Verità was donated to the Canton of Ticino.
Archivio Luigi Pericle
The Archivio Luigi Pericle [Luigi Pericle Archive], set up in 2018, is a Non-Profit Association that preserves, maintains, and enhances the works, the library and the entire archival material relating to and connected with the life, studies and art of Luigi Pericle (1916–2001). Besides the artist’s extensive collection of works on canvas, masonite, and paper, which is the focus of an ongoing research and promotion activity, the Association is the guardian of the artist’s library, which has been recently catalogued and systematized. This library testifies to the maestro’s manifold interests and versatile knowledge, leading him to in-depth studies in the fields of theosophy, anthroposophy, astronomy, astrology, cosmology, Egyptology, Oriental philosophies, homeopathy, esotericism, Zen, Buddhism, and spirituality; it also encompasses magazines and literature on Oriental and Indian religions and medicines, totaling to over 1500 volumes.
