The occasion of the actual re-launch of activities of the Eranos Foundation continues in parallel to the will of careful and responsible recollecting of the cultural heritage linked to Eranos, of which the photographic and documentary exhibition is a constitutive part. With the intention of narrating the Eranos experience both in its intrinsic international vocation as well as in reference to its place of birth - Ascona, the Lago Maggiore and the Ticino - the exhibition was conceived as an entity with many facets, finding its own conceptual heart at the East West Foundation Centre at AION, and spreading its wings to the complementary narratives at Monte Verità, the Brissago Islands, the Epper Museum as well as the Town Museum of Ascona

ERANOS - Images of a Mythical Journey into our Times - Ascona 1930-1988 presents itself as a rediscovery of existential fragments and slivers of meaning of an individual and collective inner journey into the 20th Century and its culture - a collection devoted to a sacred past, with the intention of offering the latter once more in all its interpretative complexity through an exhibition language building a bridge between historical memory and symbolical images. It is a recent past that is represented, deliberately delimitated by the curators' both hermeneutical and reconstructive choice to a specific temporary interval. Nevertheless, it is constituted by configurations of sense that seem to escape from a rigid historical setting, referring towards meaningful openings of eschatological significance.
These configurations reveal themselves in the twilight of thematic ravines of the expositive path, constituting in reality its most vivid and fertile nucleus. The rediscovery of Eranos is thus proposed in terms of a 'spiritual adventure', evoking also due to the thematic and topographical logic the suggestions of an archetypal journey towards profoundness, thanks to the continuing oscillation between existential polarities: rational and irrational, contemporary and archaic, literal and symbolical, local and universal. Therefore, let yourself be carried away not only along a narrative, chronologically rigorous path, but also on the trail of emotional echoes and amplifications from symbol to symbol, from vision to vision, from image to image, in dynamics that conjure up a dream
L'occasione dell'attuale rilancio delle attività della Fondazione Eranos procede parallelamente alla volontà di un recupero attento e responsabile del patrimonio culturale legato a Eranos, di cui l'esposizione fotografica e documentaristica è parte integrante. Nell'intento di raccontare l'esperienza di Eranos tanto nella sua intrinseca vocazione metaterritoriale quanto in riferimento al suo luogo d'elezione - Ascona, il Lago Maggiore ed il Ticino - l'esposizione è stata concepita come organismo poliforme che trova il proprio cuore tematico presso la East West Foundation Centre presso AION, diramandosi in nuclei evocativi complementari a Monte Verità, le Isole di Brissago, il Museo Epper e il Museo comunale d'arte moderna di Ascona.
ERANOS - Images of a Mythical Journey into our Times - Ascona 1930-1988 si presenta, così come una riscoperta di frammenti esistenziali e schegge di significato di un percorso interiore, individuale e collettivo, nella cultura del Novecento - un recupero devoto di un passato sacro che si vuole riproporre in tutta la sua complessità interpretativa mediante un linguaggio espositivo teso tra memoria storica e immagine simbolica. Quello rappresentato, è un passato prossimo, volutamente delimitato da una scelta ermeneutico-ricostruttiva dei curatori a un determinato intervallo temporale, costituito comunque da configurazioni di senso che paiono spesso sfuggire a una rigida collocazione storica, rinviando ad aperture di significato di portata escatologica.
Configurazioni, queste, lasciantesi intravvedere nella penombra degli anfratti tematici del percorso espositivo, pur costituendone in realtà il nucleo più fecondo. Si propone allora la riscoperta di un Eranos nei termini di 'avventura spirituale', evocando anche nelle logiche tematica e topografica le suggestioni di un viaggio archetipico alle profondità grazie al continuo oscillare tra polarità esistenziali: razionale e irrazionale, contemporaneo e arcaico, letterale e simbolico, localistico e universale. Lasciandosi condurre, quindi, non solo lungo un percorso narrativo cronologicamente rigoroso, ma anche sulla scia di echi emotivi e amplificazioni da simbolo a simbolo, da visione a visione, da immagine a immagine, in una dinamica che sembra a tratti richiamare quella di un sogno.
